A copy of the background layer in Photoshop was made, then the sky was quite easily masked out using a channel masking procedure talked about in Photoshop Masking And Compositing by Katrin Eisman. A curves layer was placed between this and the original layer, and the sky darkened slightly. The layer mask that was created on the copy layer was clicked, then, CTRLJ, was, hit, to, make, a, new, layer, of, just, the, background., The, layer, mode, was, changed, to, "Soft Light", and, the, opacity, reduced, to, get, a, pleasing, effect., A, curve, layer, was, added, on, top, of, the, layer, stack, that, overly, brightened, the, foreground, layer, but it was hidden by selecting it's built in layer mask and filling it with black. Partial areas were then lightened selectively by painting on the black layer mask with a white brush set at 5 opacity. Finally, another curve layer was added to the top, adjusted to darken the photo slightly, an an oval gradient mask from black to clear was added to give the vignette effect.
